The biosphere.center devotes itself to systematically
and comprehensively support the development of biosphere reserves on a
global scale.
Biosphere reserves are model regions and learning sites for the sustainable development of people with and as part of the environment. The global network of UNESCO biosphere reserves and the Man and the biosphere program offer great potential for implementing the idea of sustainability. The guiding principle of the strategic partnership is to set up and operate a competence center. The Center pursues with ist activities the following goals:

The biosphere.center is a joint competence centre of the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, the Michael Succow Foundation and Nationale Naturlandschaften e. V. Its foundation is the worldwide experience with projects and activities of the participating institutions, biosphere reserves and scientists.

The #BiosphereShare Youtube channel was initiated in November 2020 by the Centre for Econics and Ecosystem Management of the Eberswalde University of Applied Sciences as part of the DAAD-funded program “University Dialogue Western Balkans”. In close cooperation with partners and actors of the biosphere.center it was further developed and enriched with regard to technical knowledge and work experience in connection with the MAB program of UNESCO and its biosphere reserves. This series of PPPs with experts’ audio commentary provides basic knowledge about the origin and founding of the UNESCO MAB programme, about Biosphere Reserves governance and coordination, zoning schemes, ecosystem-based management as well as about their three functions: conservation, development and logistic support.

Prof. em. Dr. Michael SuccowFor 25 years Michael Succow is essentially participating in the german MAB-National commitee and co-initiator numerous biosphere reserves in Germany and abroad.
Dr. Lutz MöllerAs Deputy Secretary-General of the German Commission for UNESCO, Dr Lutz Möller is responsible for political-programmatic issues and for global cooperation between the UNESCO National Commissions and other UNESCO networks. As Head of the Department of Sustainable Development, Science, his responsibilities continue to focus on UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and UNESCO Geoparks.
Prof. Dr. Wilhelm-Günther VahrsonProf. Dr. habil. Wilhelm-Günther Vahrson is active in various committees in the field of sustainability and nature conservation. The geographer and university lecturer managed the HNEE between 1998 and 2021 and has promoted the profiling of the university on sustainability issues.
Peter SüdbeckThe graduate biologist Peter Südbeck has been Chairman of the Board of the Nationale Naturlandschaften e. V. since 2018. After numerous activities in the field of bird protection and the designation of protected areas, he has headed the National Park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Administration of Lower Saxony's Wadden Sea since 2005.
